The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 22, 2025. Ahead of the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced several new regulations:
IPL 2025 New Rules
- Teams will have access to 2 practice nets and 1 side wicket on the main square for range hitting. At the Mumbai venue, if both teams are practicing simultaneously, each team will get 2 wickets.
- Open nets will not be allowed.
- If one team finishes its practice early, the other team cannot use the wickets for their session.
- No practice will be permitted on match days.
- No fitness tests will take place on match days on the main square.
- Only accredited staff will be allowed in the dressing rooms and on the field on practice days (pre-tournament and during the tournament). Family members and friends of players must travel separately and can watch practice from the hospitality area. The BCCI must approve a list of extended support staff (such as throwdown specialists and net bowlers), after which non-match-day accreditations will be issued.
- Players are required to use the team bus for practice. Teams may travel in two batches.
- The Venue Manager will be the point of contact for any practice or fitness test requests on match days.
- Players need to wear orange and purple caps during the matches. In case they do not, they are requested that they do so for the first two overs until the broadcast captures it.
- No floppies or sleeveless jerseys are permitted during the post-match presentation. Failure to do so will result in a warning in the first instance. In the second incident, there will be a monetary penalty.
