On November 19, 2024, musician AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. In a statement, Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, stated that the decision was made due to the couple’s relationship troubles. The divorce was decided due to considerable emotional difficulties in their relationship. Despite their strong love for one another, the couple has understood that their disagreements and problems have caused an irreparable schism that cannot be bridged today. Vandana also emphasised that Saira had taken this decision out of pain and agony and that she requests privacy and understanding during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life.
