Anna Hazare Calls Out Govt on Lokayukta; Announces Fast-Unto-Death From Jan 30 in Ralegan Siddhi

Anna Hazare

Social activist Anna Hazare has announced an indefinite hunger strike from 30 January in Ralegan Siddhi, accusing the Maharashtra government of failing to implement the Lokayukta Act. Calling it his “final agitation”, Hazare said the law is crucial for public welfare but has been ignored. He reminded that in 2022, after his earlier strike, a draft was prepared and passed by both Houses before being sent to the President. However, he said the Act still remains unimplemented despite his repeated letters.

Hazare said he wrote seven letters to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis but received no reply, expressing disappointment over the lack of action. He stated that a government must work for public welfare, not delay important laws. His announcement comes years after his 2011 India Against Corruption movement, which drew nationwide attention to the demand for stronger anti-corruption measures.
