Amritpal Singh Dhillon, a 26-year-old NRI, has been taken into custody. He is accused of being involved in a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of 114-year-old marathon legend Fauja Singh. The incident took place on the Jalandhar–Pathankot highway, where Singh had stepped out for his usual afternoon walk. Around 3 p.m., a fast-moving white Toyota Fortuner struck him. Despite being rushed to Shriman Hospital, he passed away during treatment around 7 p.m.
Amritpal Singh Dhillon Arrested
Authorities traced the SUV to Dhillon, who had recently returned from Canada and purchased the vehicle shortly before the incident. During questioning, he confessed to being behind the wheel and admitted he only discovered the victim’s identity later through media reports. He claimed he was returning home after selling his mobile phone. Harvinder, son of Fauja Singh, said the family had not received any official information about the arrest. He questioned why the driver failed to assist his injured father instead of fleeing the scene.
