The correct ways to keep in mind while checking someone’s blood pressure are as follows:

  • Make the patient sit for 5 minutes before taking their blood pressure.
  • National and international guidelines indicate that one should relax for 3 to 5 minutes before checking blood pressure.
  • For at least 30 minutes before measurement, do not eat, drink, use caffeine, or smoke.
  • Sit in a comfy chair that supports your back.
  • Place both feet flat on the ground with their legs uncrossed.
  • Rest their arm with the cuff on a table at chest level.
  • Make sure the cuff fits snugly but not too tight.
  • Avoid talking while your blood pressure is being monitored.
