Food delivery and quick commerce services in Delhi and nearby areas may be disrupted on New Year’s Eve, as delivery workers’ unions have called for a strike. The workers are protesting issues such as unclear pay, sudden blocking of their IDs, and pressure to complete 10-minute deliveries. The strike is expected to affect platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto. A similar protest on December 25 had already caused delivery delays in several parts of the NCR during peak hours.
Swiggy, Zomato Workers Call Strike
Delivery partners said the current payment system forces them to work long hours while taking risks on the road. Workers claim incentives are cut for minor delays and that earnings have become unpredictable due to frequent changes in pay structures. Unions have demanded fair wages, safer delivery timelines, and greater transparency from platforms, warning of wider participation in future protests.
