Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi issued an apology to the Indian government on Monday after a video of him referring to himself and Vijay Mallya as India’s “biggest fugitives” went viral. Shared from a London birthday party, the video drew sharp criticism online for mocking the government and the legal system. Modi later deleted the clip and expressed regret, saying his comments were misconstrued and were never intended to hurt anyone.
Lalit Modi Apologises
In his apology, Modi said he respected the Indian government and did not intend to offend anyone. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed that India remains committed to bringing fugitives facing legal charges back to the country. Both Modi and Mallya, who have been living in the UK for years, face serious financial and legal allegations, with ongoing efforts underway for their return to India.
