Who Was Rehman Dakait? The Real Karachi Gangster Behind Akshaye Khanna’s Dhurandhar Character

Rehman Dakait

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has caught everyone’s attention, not just for Ranveer Singh’s lead role but for Akshaye Khanna’s chilling portrayal of Rehman Baloch, also known as Rehman Dakait. The semi-fictional spy thriller is set in Karachi’s gang-infested Lyari and is inspired by real events from the late 2000s. While Ranveer plays an Indian spy infiltrating gangs, Akshaye’s Rehman character steals the show, making his first appearance in the viral Bahraini track FA9LA—a moment fans cannot stop talking about.

Who Was Rehman Dakait?

Rehman Dakait, born Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch in 1975, became one of the most feared figures in Lyari’s underworld. Exposed to drugs at a young age, he committed violent crimes early, including the murder of his mother. By the late 1990s, he joined Haji Laloo’s gang and later took control after Laloo’s arrest. Alongside his cousin Uzair Baloch and associate Baba Ladla, Rehman dominated Lyari with extreme brutality, leaving behind a violent legacy before dying in a police shootout in 2009.

Dhurandhar’s Take on Rehman

In the film, Akshaye Khanna transforms into Rehman Dakait with chilling intensity. His entry, set to the viral Bahraini rap hit FA9LA, has already become iconic. The film brings Lyari’s underworld to life, depicting Rehman’s rise to power, his gang’s brutal rule, and deadly encounters with law enforcement. Despite taking creative liberties, Akshaye captures Rehman’s fearsome persona perfectly, making his performance one of the most unforgettable highlights of this action-packed spy thriller.
