Thailand Air Strikes Cambodia as New Wave of Border Violence Erupts

Thailand Air Strikes Cambodia

Tensions have escalated along the Thailand–Cambodia border as Thailand carried out air strikes on Cambodian military positions on Monday morning. The Thai army said the strikes targeted only military sites after accusing Cambodia of provoking the conflict. This incident comes just months after a ceasefire agreement was brokered in the presence of US President Donald Trump. The dispute centres on land surrounding the historic Preah Vihear temple, claimed by both nations.

The Thai military said the air strikes were a response to Cambodia moving troops and heavy weapons closer to the border. Cambodia, however, accused Thailand of launching early-morning attacks on its positions. These renewed clashes underscore the fragile state of peace agreements in the region and bring renewed attention to the long-standing dispute around the Preah Vihear temple.
