The IPL 2026 auction is set for December 16 in Abu Dhabi, and several top overseas names are expected to draw major attention from franchises. Many star players, including all-rounders and fast bowlers, have entered the auction in the highest base-price category. Big names like Cameron Green and Matheesha Pathirana are expected to attract heavy interest, but despite strong demand, teams will not be able to bid beyond a fixed amount for any overseas cricketer this season.
BCCI’s New Rule Limits Overseas Players
The restriction comes from updated IPL rules introduced before last year’s mega auction. As per these guidelines, Rs 18 crore is the maximum amount any overseas player can receive in a mini-auction. Even if teams attempt to push the bid higher, the final price will remain capped at this amount. The limit mirrors the top retention slab used by franchises during the 2025 season.
