Gautam Gambhir on India’s Biggest Test Defeat to South Africa: ‘BCCI Can Take Call, Indian cricket is important I am not’

Gambhir

India suffered a historic 408-run defeat on home soil, a result for which head coach Gautam Gambhir emphasised that responsibility for the loss lies with the entire team, starting with him. On his future, he said, “It is for the BCCI to decide. Indian cricket is important; I am not.”

Gambhir Calls for Toughness Over Talent

He highlighted his past successes, including wins in England, the Champions Trophy, and the Asia Cup, asserting that the team is still learning. Gambhir refused to single out players, urging the need for “tough characters” over flamboyant talent in Test cricket. He stressed the need to prioritise Test cricket and called for a collective effort, making it clear that systemic improvement—not individual blame—is key to India’s revival.
