Gatherings Banned in Nepal as Fresh Gen Z Protests Erupt; Curfew Imposed in Simara After Violent Clashes

Nepal

Gen Z protests erupted again in Simara, Nepal, on November 20, 2025. The protestors gathered at Simara Chowk around 11 am, accusing the police of failing to arrest individuals involved in clashes with CPN-UML cadres that occurred on Wednesday. Six Gen Z supporters were injured during these clashes, which were linked to UML leader Mahesh Basnet’s planned visit to Bara.

As tensions escalated near Simara Airport, the police fired teargas, temporarily halting airport operations. In response, the Bara District Administration ordered a curfew from 1 pm to 8 pm, prohibiting all gatherings, rallies, meetings, demonstrations, or encirclements within 500 metres on both sides of the highway from Pathlaiya Chowk to Jitpur Lalka Bridge, and around the airport.

The move aims to contain unrest and prevent further confrontations between protestors and UML supporters, ensuring safety in the region while authorities monitor the situation closely.
