‘I Am Not Harmanpreet Kaur, Why Would I Hit Anyone?’ Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana Denies Assaulting Juniors

Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana

Bangladesh women’s cricket captain Nigar Sultana Joty has denied the allegations made by pacer Jahanara Alam, who claimed that she physically assaulted junior players. Jahanara, who last played for Bangladesh in 2024, said Joty mistreated younger teammates. The Bangladesh Cricket Board rejected the accusations and expressed full confidence in Joty. Responding for the first time, Joty said the claims are false, adding that she has never acted violently towards any player and that the accusations do not match her character.

Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana Denies Allegations

Joty questioned why she would hit anyone and stated that she had never behaved aggressively with her teammates. She referred to India captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 2023 incident, saying she is “not Harmanpreet” and would never strike the stumps or act similarly. Joty added that while she may show frustration in private moments, she has never been physical with others.

Joty’s Remark About Harmanpreet

Joty made a light remark referencing India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, saying she is “not Harmanpreet” and would not strike the stumps or show such anger. Her comment referred to the 2023 ODI in Bangladesh, where Harmanpreet hit the stumps after being given out. Joty used the example to show she has never displayed such behaviour on the field. During the 2023 third ODI, India were chasing 226 and were all out for 225, ending the series 1-1. Harmanpreet reacted angrily to her dismissal, hit the stumps, and argued with the umpire. She later received a two-match ban. Joty mentioned the moment to clarify that she had never acted aggressively in that way.
