Pakistan

Sri Lanka’s ongoing ODI series against Pakistan faces uncertainty after players expressed security concerns following a deadly bomb blast at the Islamabad High Court premises. Stationed in Islamabad, several Sri Lankan cricketers reportedly wanted to return home, fearing for their safety. However, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) intervened, directing players and support staff to continue the tour as scheduled.

Pakistan assures top-level security

In a statement, SLC confirmed that it is working closely with the PCB and local authorities to ensure the team’s safety. The board also warned that any player or staff member defying its orders and returning home would face a formal review and possible disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, PCB chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, assuring top-level, ‘presidential-style’ security for the visiting team to maintain the series as planned.
