Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the triumphant Indian women’s cricket team at his residence, congratulating them on their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory. He praised their resilience after a tough start to the tournament and lauded their remarkable comeback that brought home India’s first-ever women’s world title.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana shared how the Prime Minister’s words inspired them, while Modi encouraged the players to promote fitness and inspire young girls across India.
Interestingly, during the meeting, Modi once again chose not to touch the World Cup trophy, showing the same respect he had displayed earlier for the men’s team.

World Cup Respectful Gesture Returns
Just last year, when the Indian men’s team lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, PM Modi met Rohit Sharma’s squad but also refrained from touching the trophy — a gesture symbolising respect for the champions. Instead, he chose to hold hands with Rohit and coach Rahul Dravid.
