Delhi CM Rekha Gupta sparked controversy on November 4, 2025, after she avoided questions about the city’s worsening air quality. While campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar ahead of the first phase of the 2025 Assembly elections, she was asked about Delhi’s hazardous AQI levels, but, instead of responding, turned away from the camera.
BJP Denies Allegations
BJP’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdev dismissed AAP’s accusations as “baseless and fabricated.” He defended Rekha Gupta’s visit to Bihar, stating that it is normal for leaders to campaign during elections, citing examples of other state leaders traveling despite local crises.
Delhi continues to remain under a thick blanket of post-Diwali smog, with the AQI touching “very poor” levels at 309. Despite a significant 77.5% reduction in stubble burning, pollution in the national capital has reached a five-year high.
