Siddiqua Begum Khan, daughter of the late Shah Bano Begum, has approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Indore to halt the release of the Hindi film Haq. The film, starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, is scheduled to release on November 7, 2025. The petition alleges that the movie misrepresents Shah Bano’s life and was made without her family’s consent.
Family Alleges Misrepresentation in the Film ‘Haq’
In her plea, Siddiqua Begum stated that the filmmakers used Shah Bano’s name and personal details without authorisation, violating the family’s right to privacy. The court has reserved its order after hearing both sides. The Shah Bano case of 1985 remains a landmark moment in India’s legal and social history. While the family alleges distortion of facts, the producers maintain that Haq is a dramatized interpretation inspired by real events.
