AI Regulations: Govt Proposes Tougher Deepfake Rules

AI Regulations

The government is rolling out new AI rules to tackle deepfakes and other AI-generated content on social media. Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram will have to clearly label videos, images, and audio created by AI. The aim is simple: reduce misinformation, protect users’ privacy, and make major platforms more accountable. Anyone can share their feedback on the draft rules until 6 November 2025.

AI Regulations for Social Media

Under the new deepfake rules, social media platforms must label AI content, verify user declarations, and embed metadata. Failure to comply could result in the loss of legal protections. The rules aim to increase transparency, reduce misinformation, and protect users from misleading or harmful AI-generated content.
