At least 20 children have died in Madhya Pradesh after consuming Coldrif cough syrup, which was found to be contaminated with a toxic chemical. The syrup, produced by Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharmaceuticals, has also been linked to deaths in Rajasthan. After days of searching, the company’s owner, Ranganathan Govindan, was arrested in Chennai by Madhya Pradesh Police late last night.

Govindan faces charges of adulteration, culpable homicide, and endangering children’s safety. Police said he was caught during a midnight operation after being on the run for several days. Officials have seized key documents from his Kancheepuram factory, and the investigation has now expanded to include suppliers and distributors involved in the production and sale of the toxic syrup.
