Duration- 2 hours 15 mins
Ratings- 4 stars
Today, we will dive into Dharma Productions’ latest rom-com, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari — Karan Johar’s big bet after lukewarm outings like Dhadak 2 and Homebound. But the real question is — did this one finally hit the mark? Let’s find out.
Story
Let’s be honest — the plot is simple and yet predictable. You more or less know where it’s headed. But what makes it work is how it’s told. The movie is lively, colorful, and loaded with Bollywood-style masala, keeping you hooked for the most part.
However, there’s a catch — the sheer number of songs. After a point, it starts feeling like a back-to-back music album. A few sequences could have easily been trimmed without losing the charm.
Performances
It’s refreshing to see Manish Paul back on screen. He lights up scenes with his signature comic timing and natural energy.
Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra stay true to their characters — they fit perfectly into the film’s playful tone. And Rohit Saraf? Totally adorable. His ‘soft boy’ charm works well, though like every newcomer he needs to work on his acting a little more.
First Half vs Second Half
The first half clicks — it’s breezy, funny, and loaded with moments that make you laugh. The songs feel purposeful here and add to the narrative. But the second half loses a bit of steam and can make you feel a little bored. The pacing dips, and the spark fades a little, though the film never fully derails.
Verdict: Should You Watch It?
In short, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is a feel-good, one-time watch. It’s vibrant, filled with emotion, and gives you that classic rom-com comfort — perfect when you just want to unwind. If you love light-hearted romances with festive energy and goofy humor, this one’s worth your ticket. However, if you prefer a tighter storytelling approach with fewer songs and more substance, you might find yourself checking your watch.
