Hundreds of thousands of fans gathered in Guwahati, Assam, to bid farewell to singer-composer Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore on 19 September at the age of 52. Known for his contributions to Assamese music and for singing in over 40 languages, Garg was cremated with state honours and a 21-gun salute. His mortal remains were draped in a traditional Assamese gamosa, and fans sang lines from his hit song Mayabini, expressing grief over the loss of one of Assam’s most iconic cultural figures.

Zubeen Garg’s Final Journey
The funeral of Zubeen Garg in Guwahati drew massive crowds. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya were present. Thousands of fans queued overnight, singing his songs and shedding tears. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, was visibly emotional as the city came together to bid farewell to Assam’s beloved music icon.
