Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez faced a setback when the Supreme Court refused to hear her plea in the Rs 200-crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The court stated that she could approach it at a later stage. However, the apex court declined to intervene in the matter.
Jacqueline’s Court Challenge
Fernandez challenged the Delhi High Court’s order dismissing her plea to quash the proceedings, arguing that the ED recognised her as an “innocent victim” and not a perpetrator. She claimed that Sukesh had unrestricted access to mobile phones and electronic devices in Tihar Jail, which he used to cheat several film personalities, including her.
She also sought an interim stay on the ongoing trial, but the Delhi High Court rejected her arguments. The court stated that her apprehension of self-incrimination could not justify quashing the case and emphasised that safeguards against self-incrimination would be examined during the trial, not at the threshold stage.
