India’s road to the Oscars 2026 just got more exciting! On Friday in Kolkata, it was announced that Neeraj Ghaywan’s much-awaited film Homebound will represent India at the Academy Awards. Featuring stellar performances from Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khatter, and Janhvi Kapoor, the film is backed by Dharma Productions and will be released in Indian theatres on September 26, 2025.

But the buzz does not stop there. Homebound has already captured hearts globally, earning a rare nine-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and again at TIFF on September 12, 2025. With such international acclaim, expectations are soaring. Adding to the buzz, the announcement poster features the Netflix logo, confirming an OTT release is on the cards, although the official date is yet to be revealed.
