ICC Turns Down Pakistan Cricket Board’s Request to Remove Referee Andy Pycroft in Asia Cup

ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has firmly rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft for the remainder of the Asia Cup. This decision follows the fallout from the India–Pakistan group-stage clash. The game saw a controversial handshake snub by India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube.

ICC Rejects PCB Request

Pakistan lodged formal complaints, claiming that Pycroft advised their captain, Salman Agha, not to shake hands. They also alleged that Indian players violated the Code of Conduct. Despite the PCB’s threat to withdraw from the tournament if Pycroft remained, the council reviewed the matter and decided to stand by the referee.

The incident has triggered disciplinary action within Pakistan. The board suspended the Director of International Cricket Operations, Usman Wahla. Tensions are high as Pakistan prepares to face the UAE. Mohsin Naqvi emphasised the importance of sportsmanship and decorum. The Asia Cup continues to be overshadowed by this intense India-Pakistan rivalry.
