At least 14 people lost their lives and over 80 were injured on Monday as protests against Nepal’s social media ban escalated into violence. The clashes began when protesters tried to break into Parliament, and police responded with gunfire, tear gas, and water cannons. The government also shut down the internet in many cities, including Kathmandu, to control the unrest. The protest, led mainly by young people, followed the ban on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other platforms.

Nepal Protest Turns Violent
Authorities announced that the curfew would continue from 12:30 pm to 10 pm in Baneshwar, Singha Durbar, Baluwatar, and surrounding areas. Hospitals confirmed dozens of admissions with gunshot and tear gas injuries. Protesters called the movement a fight for free speech, accusing the government of corruption and silencing young voices, while the internet shutdown added to growing public anger.
