Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Meet NSA Ajit Doval in New Delhi on August 18

Ajit Doval

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in India on 18 August to meet National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The meeting is expected to cover ongoing border issues between the two countries. The visit comes shortly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Tianjin, China, for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, marking an important step in the gradual improvement of ties strained since the 2020 Ladakh clash.

Ahead of Modi’s China visit

PM Modi’s visit to Tianjin will bring him together with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other world leaders. In recent months, India and China have worked to restore normalcy, agreeing to resume border patrols, restart direct flights, and simplify visa processes. They have also agreed to cooperate on the Kailash–Mansarovar Yatra and shared data on transnational rivers, reflecting renewed diplomatic engagement between the two Asian neighbours.
