Former India captain MS Dhoni will record his statement after the Madras High Court ordered a trial in a defamation case worth Rs 100 crore. Dhoni filed the case against two media channels, an IPS officer, and a journalist for falsely associating him with the 2013 IPL betting scandal. The case has been delayed for nearly 10 years.
Dhoni’s Statement to be Recorded
The court appointed an Advocate Commissioner to record Dhoni’s statement, as he would not appear in person to avoid public disturbance. Dhoni’s lawsuit, filed in 2014, seeks damages for defamatory remarks made during a television debate. His lawyers have urged the court to expedite the trial. Although Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he still plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
