Air India has launched a dedicated mental wellness app called ‘Amaha’ for its employees, designed to address emotional and psychological challenges faced by airline staff. Developed in collaboration with mental health professionals, the app offers access to one-on-one therapy, self-care exercises, mood tracking, journaling, and even a well-being chatbot. This app offers 24/7 consultations and help to users.
This initiative follows a rise in concern over mental health issues in the aviation sector, particularly after incidents like the June 2024 crew member suicide. With airline crew members often exposed to high-pressure environments, erratic schedules, and emotional burnout, Air India’s move is a timely and necessary intervention.
‘Amaha’ Specifications
The app provides a personalised experience by allowing employees to choose therapy plans, access breathing exercises, manage stress, and stay connected to licensed professionals in real-time. It also offers resources tailored to aviation-specific mental health challenges, emphasising a judgement-free, confidential experience.
By making mental health resources more accessible, Air India is setting a precedent for other airlines in India to prioritise psychological well-being alongside physical health and safety.
