Actress Urvashi has stirred controversy by questioning the National Film Awards jury’s decision to award Shah Rukh Khan the Best Actor for ‘Jawan’. She believes Vijayaraghavan, who played a powerful lead role in ‘Pookkaalam’, deserved the honour instead.
In her statement, Urvashi raised questions: “What exactly did the jury consider to call Shah Rukh the best actor and Vijayaraghavan a supporting one? On what criteria was this decided?” She emphasised that Vijayaraghavan’s performance, which required portraying a 100-year-old man with intense physical and emotional extremes, was far more deserving of national-level recognition.
Urvashi’s Frustration at Shah Rukh Khan’s Win
Urvashi, who won Best Supporting Actress for ‘Ullozhukku’, also expressed frustration at how she was awarded in the supporting category for what was a lead role. She called for a transparent and revised framework for jury decisions, especially regarding category classifications. Her remarks have split the internet around fairness and transparency in India’s most prestigious film awards.
