US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order placing new tariffs on imports from more than 70 countries, including India, Pakistan, and all 27 European Union (EU) member states. The tariffs, ranging from 10% to 41%, are part of what Trump calls an effort to correct long-standing trade imbalances. The order, titled ‘Further Modifying the Reciprocal Tariff Rates’, will take effect on August 7. The rollout was originally planned for August 1 but was pushed back to finalize the full rate schedule. The new policy sets country-specific tariff rates.
For example, India imports will now face a 25% tariff, while Syria tops the list with a 41% rate. Goods from the EU will see adjusted tariffs depending on their existing US duty rates. If a product has a US tariff below 15%, the rate will be increased to match 15% minus the existing duty. Products already taxed at above 15% are exempt from any new increases.
