Divya Deshmukh has made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the final of the FIDE Women’s World Cup. At just 19 years old, Divya Deshmukh pulled off a stunning victory in the semifinals. She defeated China’s Zhongyi Tan — a former World Champion and currently ranked World No. 4 — with a score of 1.5–0.5. The victory not only sends Divya to the final but also secures her a spot in the upcoming Women’s Candidates Tournament. She will now face either Koneru Humpy or Lei Tingjie for the title.

Who is Divya Deshmukh?

Divya Deshmukh is one of India’s most promising young chess players. She became a Woman Grandmaster in 2021 and has since won the 2022 national title, an Asian crown, and the World Under-20 Girls Championship in 2024. She has represented India at Olympiads and recently helped her team win medals at the World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships. Known for her calm under pressure, Divya is currently ranked No. 2 among Indian women players.
