University of Southampton

The University of Southampton has opened its new campus in Gurugram, Haryana. It becomes the first international university to set up a physical campus in India, under the latest guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called it an important moment for Indian education. The campus will give students a chance to study international courses in India at a lower cost and closer to home. Classes are set to begin in 2025 and will welcome students from India, Nepal, and the UAE.

Step Towards Global Study

The launch of this campus is a big moment for Indian education and shows that India is ready to work with top global universities and offer students more choices. Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said it also strengthens the education partnership between India and the UK. He encouraged the university to offer courses in science and technology, helping India become a leader in innovation. He also praised the university for completing the campus quickly, within just one year of receiving approval. This is part of a larger plan under NEP 2020 to bring international education closer to Indian students.
