The United States has officially declared The Resistance Front (TRF) a terrorist organisation after the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 civilians. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Thursday that TRF had claimed responsibility for the attack. With this move, the group is now listed as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The decision will take effect once published in the Federal Register and shows the U.S. is taking strong action against the terrorist group.

What is The Resistance Front?
The Resistance Front, or TRF, is believed to be a front of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned terror group based in Pakistan. TRF came into the picture after Article 370 was removed in 2019. It has carried out several attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting civilians, including Kashmiri Pandits and migrant workers. TRF has also been linked to drone attacks on Indian military sites and armed smuggling. In 2023, India banned the group under the UAPA law and named its commander, Sajjad Gul, a terrorist. India has welcomed the U.S. decision and said it shows strong global support for its fight against terrorism.
