Praggnanandhaa Beats World Champion Carlsen In Freestyle Chess

Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa defeated world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in 39 moves at the ‘Freestyle Chess Grand Slam’ held in Las Vegas. The game was played in Round 4 and followed a 10-minute time control with a 10-second increment per move. With this victory, Praggnanandhaa has now beaten Carlsen in all major formats of the game: Classical, Rapid, Blitz, and now Freestyle.

Carlsen Knocked Out

Carlsen lost two important games, one to Praggnanandhaa and one to Wesley So. He also had two draws but managed to beat Bibisara Assaubayeva. However, he lost a playoff match to Levon Aronian, which sent him to the lower bracket. On the other hand, Praggnanandhaa is on top of Group White with 4.5 points, along with Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javokhir Sindarov. The quarter-final matches will start on Thursday, and the winner of the tournament will get $200,000.
