Security forces of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district are currently engaged in an intense encounter with four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists in a dense forest area. The officials shared that the terrorists were trapped in the forest. The encounter began early in the morning in the remote Bihali area of Basantgarh when a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation based on specific intelligence. Despite heavy rain and thick fog, the operation, codenamed Operation Bihali, is underway with reinforcements on the ground.
Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist encounter
According to Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, Bhim Sen Tuti, the group has been under surveillance for nearly a year. “Contact was established around 8:30 am. All four terrorists are believed to be hiding near Karoor nallah,” he said.

The trapped militants are said to be members of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad. The operation comes just days before the Amarnath Yatra begins. Separately, a late-night search in Samba’s Purmandal area ended peacefully after no suspicious elements were found, officials added.
