India suffered their first loss against England in the first Test of the five-match Test series at Headingley, Leeds. In a nail-biting finish that stretched into the final session of Day 5, England chased down a massive 371-run target. It was the second-highest successful run chase on English soil. Ben Duckett scored a whopping 149 on Day 5 with five wickets in hand, which helped England win the match.
India Makes Unwanted History
Despite the loss, India made an unwanted history by becoming the first team ever in 148 years to have five individual centurions in a Test match and still end up on the losing side. Rishabh Pant became just the second player in the history of the game to score twin centuries in a Test as a wicketkeeper-batter, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and captain Shubman Gill also scored a century. However, their efforts weren’t enough. For Gill, this comes as a great loss, as this was his first match as the Test Captain.
