In a move to ease highway travel, the Government of India has introduced a new FASTag annual pass priced at Rs 3,000. Announced by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the pass will be effective from August 15, 2025. This is meant exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
How Many Trips In Rs 3000?
The pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or 200 trips, whichever comes first. One trip will be counted each time a vehicle crosses a toll plaza. The initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, eliminate repeated toll payments, and improve access across India’s national highway network.
How to Activate, Renew?
Users will be able to activate and renew the pass through the Rajmarg Yatra App or the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The initiative promotes cashless, efficient toll collection and reduces waiting times at toll plazas. The FASTag annual pass also addresses long-standing public concerns about toll plazas located within short distances, often under 60 km, which have frequently led to travel delays and commuter complaints.
Union Minister Calls FASTag Pass a ‘Transformative Step’
Recently, Nitin Gadkari shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), describing the move as “a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel.” He wrote:“Effective from 15th August 2025, the pass is priced at Rs. 3,000 and will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. This is exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.”
