Air India Flight Crashes Near Ahmedabad, 242 Aboard

An Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after take-off near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was carrying 242 people — 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the crash site as emergency services rushed in.

The flight, AI171, was scheduled to depart at 1:10 pm from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport to Gatwick Airport in London. Seven fire engines and rescue teams were sent to the site. Reports suggest that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board.

Air India confirmed the crash on social media, stating that they were gathering more information. The airline promised to share updates soon. Aviation tracker Flightradar24 identified the plane’s registration as VT-ANB. The same jet had flown from Delhi to Ahmedabad earlier in the day. Details about the cause of the crash and the condition of those onboard are still awaited.
