The BBC World Service released a two-part documentary on Sidhu Moosewala’s murder on YouTube early Wednesday. This came despite Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh Sidhu, filing a petition in a Mansa court to stop its release. Originally, the BBC planned to screen the film in a Mumbai cinema. But after the controversy, it was uploaded online instead.

Balkaur Singh also wrote to Maharashtra’s DGP, asking to halt the screening. He alleged that the documentary includes false claims and interviews with accused individuals, which may impact the ongoing investigation. He believes the film was made without his consent and could damage his son’s legacy.

The Mansa court will hear his petition on Thursday. Singh warned of legal action if the screening isn’t stopped. The documentary has stirred debate and concern among Moosewala’s family and fans. Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, near Mansa, Punjab. Meanwhile, June 11 marks Moosewala’s birth anniversary, and on this occasion, his family posthumously release three new songs, “0008”, “Neal” and “Take Notes.”
