  • Impaired Attention and Concentration: Your lack of sleep could hinder your ability to focus and maintain attention. This happens because your brain did not get an ample amount of rest to function properly. You will find your mind wandering easily and struggle to stay present. 
  • Reduced Decision-Making: When you are sleep deprived, your prefrontal cortex gets affected. It is a part of your brain responsible for crucial judgment and decision-making. Much like alcohol compromises your ability to think clearly and assess risks, lack of sleep can lead to impulsive choices. Your poor judgement in such a state will also not allow you to evaluate the consequences would normally consider. 
  • Slowed Information Processing: When you are extremely tired, the speed at which your brain processes information also decreases. Similar to drinking alcohol, it gets harder for your brain to receive, interpret, and respond to information quickly.
  • Clumsy Balance and Coordination: Sleep deprivation can also have an effect on your balance or coordination, making you clumsier than usual. Your cerebellum is responsible for your body’s coordination and balance. Lack of sleep can lead to feelings of unsteadiness, clumsiness, and difficulty with fine motor skills.
