After years of contemplation, Aamir Khan is finally ready to bring his dream project—the Mahabharata—to life. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir confirmed that work on the epic will begin this year. Calling it “one of my biggest ambitions,” he shared that the writing alone will take several years.

While he hasn’t confirmed whether he’ll act in the series, Aamir Khan made it clear his current focus is on producing. Casting will depend entirely on who best suits each role. Given the project’s massive scale, Aamir is considering a Lord of the Rings-style production, with multiple directors and parallel shoots to save time.
Speculation around the project began as early as 2018, with reports of a Rs 1,000 crore budget. For Aamir, Mahabharata isn’t just a film, it’s a spiritual and cultural responsibility. He said, “It’s too early to say, but we might need multiple directors. If we have to plan it in a certain timeline… because if you do one after another, it will take very long. Like they did in Lord of the Rings. So something like that — in that case, you will need more than one director.”
