Gauri Khan Owned Torii Faces ‘Fake Paneer’ Allegation

Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan-owned upscale Mumbai restaurant Torii has landed in the spotlight. YouTuber Sarthak Sachdeva accused the eatery of serving “fake” paneer. In a now-viral video, Sarthak performed an iodine test on a paneer dish at Torii, which turned black, suggesting starch presence, commonly linked with adulteration.

The Allegation

“Shah Rukh Khan ke restaurant mein paneer nakli tha,” he declared, stunned by the result. As part of his series, Sarthak tested paneer from several celebrity-run restaurants like Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune and Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian, none of which showed starch traces.

Gauri Khan and team respond

Responding to the backlash, Torii commented, “The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. As the dish contains soy-based ingredients, this reaction is expected. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii.”  The influencer replied, “So am I banned now? Btw your food is amazing.”
