1. Chhaava
Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanded the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Nagpur, which led to riots. CM of Maharastra, Devendra Fadnavis, blamed Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Chhaava’ for inticing hate amongst people against Aurangzeb.
2. Padmaavat
The protests against ‘Padmaavat’ were led by Rajput groups, mainly the Karni Sena, who claimed the film distorted history and disrespected Rani Padmavati.
3. Bombay
The 1995 Mani Ratnam directorial based on the communal riots in Mumbai post Babri Masjid demolition faced backlash. Bombs were thrown at Ratnam’s residence.
4. My Name Is Khan
The protests against ‘My Name Is Khan’ was led by the Shiv Sena in 2010 after Shah Rukh Khan, the film’s lead actor, spoke in favour of including Pakistani players in the IPL.
5. OMG- Oh My God!
The protests against ‘Oh My God!’ were primarily led by religious groups who found the film’s portrayal of organized religion and idol worship offensive.
