The 9/11 attacks in the United States are one of the most tragic and heinous acts of terrorism, and the after-effects of which people still feel today. But did you know that our beloved Badshaah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, was in New York at the time? He wasn’t alone; his wife, Gauri Khan, his son, Aryan, and Karan Johar’s mother, Hiroo Johar, were also with him.
Shah Rukh Khan’s 9/11 ordeal
Back when SRK was promoting ‘My Name Is Khan’, he recalled about the situation in an interview. He said, “I was woken up… Karan Johar’s mother, Mrs Hiroo, showed me the television and I thought it’s the plane that our crew is taking; that’s why she is showing that there has been an accident. There was press on floor below my room waiting to do the interviews and I was like, ‘What has happened?’”
This was during the promotions of ‘Asoka’, SRK revealed that all the flights were cancelled and they were stuck in New York for 3-4 days after the attack. The actor revealed they had to take special permission to leave the country and fly to Toronto. He said, “We asked for special permission and requested some people, and they kind of understood. Very kindly, they let the family go because the kids and mothers and everyone… so we got out of it. I think I was deeply affected by it, like everyone else was.”
