Tesla’s expansion into India will be influenced by ongoing tariff discussions between the US and India. The automaker is awaiting potential reductions in India’s import tax, which is currently set at 110%.

Tesla is also considering launching a vehicle priced under Rs 21 lakh ($25,000) to disrupt the electric vehicle market in India. Tesla and the Indian government are working closely to ensure the company’s timely entry into the domestic market.

Tesla-India

Tesla revived its India plans following a recent meeting between Elon Musk and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington. The company has also posted new job openings for showrooms and delivery positions in the country, according to reports.

The Indian government is expected to relax restrictions on electric vehicle imports as part of a broader trade agreement with the US. This could include raising the import cap on EVs eligible for concessional tariffs from 8,000 to 50,000 units. Other possible measures include lowering import taxes and offering reduced import levies for certain vehicles, sources revealed.
