Rice to Pizza: 5 food items that you should NOT eat cold

Here are five foods that should not be eaten cold and the reasons why:

  1. Rice
Why not cold: Cold rice can contain harmful bacteria like Bacillus cereus, which can cause food poisoning. When rice is cooked and left at room temperature, these bacteria can multiply, making it unsafe to eat after cooling down. If reheating rice, ensure it’s heated thoroughly to kill any bacteria.
  2. Chicken
Why not cold: Cold chicken can pose health risks, particularly if it has been improperly stored. Eating cold chicken that has been sitting out for too long may lead to foodborne illnesses like salmonella. Reheating it properly ensures it’s safe to eat.
  3. Potatoes
Why not cold: Cold potatoes, especially those that have been left at room temperature, can develop harmful bacteria, increasing the risk of food poisoning. The starch in potatoes can also become more difficult to digest when cold.
  4. Pizza
Why not cold: Pizza, especially the ones with dairy (cheese) and meats, can become a breeding ground for bacteria when stored improperly. Cold pizza is not only less enjoyable but can also increase the risk of foodborne illness.
  5. Seafood
Why not cold: Seafood like fish and shellfish should be consumed fresh or thoroughly reheated. Cold seafood can harbor harmful bacteria or parasites that might lead to foodborne illnesses, especially if it has been left out for too long.
